A 5 km de la ciudad de Sucre, sobre la carretera a Cochabamba, se encuentra el Parque Cretácico con sus gigantescas esculturas de dinosaurios talladas en tamaño real que inmediatamente transportan a sus visitantes al período cretácico.
Un escenario natural con plantas originales y sonido ambiente que acompaña un recorrido que muestra la migración de estos animales y su posterior extinción.
Es un paseo entre dinosaurios donde el guía nos dirige la vista hacia la especie más impresionante del lugar, un tiranosaurio de 36 metros de largo y 18 de alto, la escultura de dinosaurio más grande del mundo. Otras réplicas que se pueden observar son del acorazado anquilosaurio, del carnotauro, el ceratopsio y otras especies herbívoras, carnívoras, además de reptiles y anfibios que existieron en Sudamérica.
Frente al parque, el imponente farallón Cal Orck`o (Cerro de Cal) invita a seguir las 12 mil huellas reales pertenecientes a 284 especies, según el recuento del paleontólogo suizo Christian Meyer, e imaginar dinosaurios caminando por el barro, tratando de escapar de sus enemigos, extinguidos hace 68 millones de años.
El recorrido y aprendizaje se complementa con la visita a las salas audiovisuales donde se difunden documentales de la era en que los dinosaurios poblaron la tierra y al museo donde se expone la réplica de un esqueleto de carnotauro en tamaño real. Además, el parque cuenta con tiendas de souvenirs con recuerdos artesanales, restaurantes de comida rápida, un mirador para apreciar la ciudad de Sucre y un área de recreación infantil donde los niños aprenden jugando.El Parque Cretácico abre de martes a jueves de 9:00 a 17:00. Sábado, domingo y feriados de 10:00 a 18:00. Un Dinobus sale todos los días de la Plaza 25 de Mayo esquina Catedral a las 11:00 y 15:00.
