Un pequeño paisaje en medio del lago Titicaca, con casas y caminos hechos de piedra, techos de paja brava y calles minuciosas y pintorescas sobre una pendiente. Eso es Sampaya, una comunidad aymara de los Andes ubicada a 18 Km al norte de Copacabana, a la que se accede en un viaje de 25 minutos de automóvil o a cuatro horas si desea llegar caminando desde dicha ciudad.
Esta comunidad del departamento de La Paz es testimonio vivo de la cultura aymara de tiempos remotos, llena de tradición, historia y creencias, que todavía preservan la arquitectura prehispánica que existió en esas tierras. Desde la cima del pueblo, una espectacular vista panorámica, desde donde se puede observar la isla de la Luna, el Lago Sagrado y los picos nevados de la cordillera Real de Los Andes.
El circuito místico para conocer cada rincón de esta comunidad se llama Mallku Pukara, donde se aprecian desde los rituales, ceremonias tradicionales, historia cultural hasta conocer la rutina diaria de sus habitantes, siendo una parte muy importante la religiosidad del pueblo, razón por la que aún se mantinenen vivas las costumbres ancestrales y la práctica de ciertas ceremonias sagradas.
Sampaya está habitada en su mayoría por personas de la tercera edad y tiene una pequeña asociación organizada, ¨Sampaya Pueblo Vivo y Ancestral¨, donde ofrece su producto turístico comunitario basado en el servicio de hospedaje, museos y caminatas de apreciación paisajística, senderos de trekking, restos arqueológicos y una gran cultura gastronómica originaria.
Entre sus labores cotidianas se encuentra la pesca y conservación de áreas naturales con ¨Totorales¨, lugares de cría de diferentes especies de aves como los patos. En Sampaya se encuentra de manera abundante la flor andina y la Kantuta, flor nacional boliviana. Una experiencia única para conocer e interactuar con una de las culturas más antiguas del país.

un refugio ancestral
A small landscape in the middle of Lake Titicaca, with houses and paths made of stone, roofs of straw and meticulous and picturesque streets on a slope. That’s Sampaya, an Aymara community in the Andes located 18 km north of Copacabana, accessed by a 25-minute drive or four hours if on foot from that city.
This community of the department of La Paz is a living testimony of an Aymara culture of ancient times, full of tradition, history and beliefs, which still preserves the pre-Hispanic architecture that existed in those lands. From the top of the town, a spectacular panoramic view, from where the island of the Moon, the Sacred Lake and the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Real de Los Andes can be seen.
The mystical circuit to every corner of this community is called Mallku Pukara, where one can appreciate rituals, traditional ceremonies, cultural history, up to the daily occupations of its inhabitants, being a very important part the religiosity of the town, which is why they still manage to keep the ancestral customs and the practice of certain sacred ceremonies alive.
Sampaya is inhabited mostly by seniors and has a small organized association, ¨Sampaya Vivid and Ancestral Village¨, where it offers its community tourism product based on accommodation, museums and walks of appreciation of the landscape, trekking trails , archaeological remains and a great originary gastronomic culture.
Among daily tasks are fishing and the conservation of natural areas with «Totorales» which are the breeding place for different species of birds such as ducks. In Sampaya, the Andean flower and the Kantuta, Bolivian national flower, are abundantly found. A unique experience to meet and interact with one of the oldest cultures in the country.
